Health Survey of adolescent girls on September 1, 2025

A survey was conducted on adolescent girls to assess anthropometric
measurements and dietary habits.
Locale of the survey: A survey was conducted on adolescent girls studying in
Govt. College for Women, Panchkula
Objectives:
(i) Data related to anthropometric measurements (Height, Weight and
BMI) was collected, analyzed and compared with Indian standards.
(ii) Dietary habits of adolescent girls are recorded.
Results/ Findings: The data was collected using Questionnaire method.
Questionnaire was prepared and pretested. Google form link having
questionnaire was shared to the students. Nearly 50 adolescent girls having age
17-20 years participated in survey. Average Height, Weight and BMI of the
respondents were 1.53 meters, 51.17 Kg and 22.56 respectively. Average Body
Mass Index (BMI) of the respondents was compared with BMI table and found in
the normal range. Food habits of the adolescent girls were recorded. About 92%
of the respondents preferred vegetarian diet. Most the respondents (92%)
preferred eating junk food, whereas 80% of the adolescent girls skipped meal
daily. Nearly half of the respondents (52%) skipped breakfast due to lack of
availability of time, whereas 64% of the adolescent girls ate outside food weekly.
Most of the respondents (52%) skip their breakfast daily, which is major cause of
malnutrition among them.
Conclusion: Food is essential for survival, growth and development of an
Individual. The dietary practices of adolescent girls are poor, as they regularly
skipped their meal specially breakfast. This poor practice is due to poor time
management. There is an urgent need to improve nutritional status of not only
adolescent girls but whole population. This can be done through community
awareness, supplementation programmes and nutrition education.
