Botany Department Activities(2021-22)

A one-day Science Exhibition was held on 16 November, 2021. The main objective of organizing the science exhibition is to promote interest in science and technology among younger generation. 12 students of B.Sc. Medical participated in this activity and exhibited their knowledge about science and its innovations. Students presented both still and working models depicting different subthemes such as Genetic engineering in plants to fight COVID-19, Transgenic plants,Hydroponics, Integrated farming and Solar drip irrigation. Demonstrations and explanations were given by the participants through their innovative working / non-working models, exhibits, colourful charts, posters and presentations supported by reports and research findings. Students gave detailed explanations of their models and also demonstrated the scientific concept and theories behind the project. All the judges praised the efforts of students and encouraged them for putting their best foot forward.
Report on Seasonal Plantations( 18 November, 2021)
Plants are immensely important for the people throughout the world. Plants add beauty to the earth's surface and contribute a greater deal to man's pleasure. Man is dependent on plants for his basic needs like food, fuel, shelter, clothes, medicines etc., these needs are growing rapidly because of growing world population, increasing income and urbanization. Plants also play an important role in reducing air pollution and useful for sustainable development of environment. A seasonal plantation program was organized by Botany Department on 18th November, 2021. 39 students of B.Sc. Medical participated in this activity. Students planted saplings of Petunia, Salvia, Zinnia, Rosaindica, Tagetes, Ocimumsanctum, Ficuselastica, Catharanthusroseus, Dianthus, Aster in pots to raise awareness and consciousness about environment. The Main aim of this activity is to make the environment pollution free and to inculcate the habit of plantation in students.
Report on Science Essay Writing Competition (10 December, 2021)
A science essay writing competition was organized by Botany and Zoology department on 10th December, 2021. The main objective of organizing the science essay writing competition is to inculcate scientific temperament among the students. 21 students of B.Sc. Medical participated in this activity and exhibited their knowledge about science and its innovations. Students were asked to write an essay on different subthemes such as COVID -19 and its Challenges, Impact of COVID-19 on education system, Rise of Modern Olympic games, Role of Intellectual Property Rights in making India: ATAM NIRBHAR BHARAT and Effect of Junk Food on Human Health. The students were asked to submit their essays within stipulated time period. The essays were well written by the students. The purpose of the competition was to encourage the students to enhance their thinking and writing skills. All the judges praised the efforts of students and encouraged them for participating in various activities and competitions.
Report on Power Point Presentation (11 February, 2022)
A Power Point Presentation activity was organized by Botany department on 11th February, 2022. The main objective of organizing the Power Point Presentation activity is to inculcate Creativity and confidence among the students. 23 students of B.Sc. Medical participated in this activity and delivered good presentations on various topics. Students prepared the presentations on different subthemes such as Environmental factors, Essential elements, Abnormal secondary growth in dicots, Life cycle of Agaricus, Structure and Reproduction in Puccinia, Topographic factors, Florigen concept, Reproduction in Cycas, Reproduction in Pinusetc. The students were asked to deliver their presentation within stipulated time period. The presentations were well delivered by the students. The purpose of this activity was to encourage the students to enhance their communication skills. All the teachers praised the efforts of students and encouraged them for participating in various activities and competitions.
Report on “A Visit to Cactus Garden” (24 May, 2022)
Field study is an essential part of Botany as plants are best studied in their natural habitat. As a part of B.Sc. Curriculum, a trip was organized by Botany Department for B.Sc. Medical Students on 24th May, 2022. 62 students of B.Sc. Medical were taken to Cactus Garden and its surrounding areas for plants and algae collection. Cactus garden restores a wide collection of endangered plant species. First year students collected algae and ferns from the Ponds and Water Bodies. They were also shown different kind of Xerophytes growing in the Cactus Garden. Second and Third year students collected various Angiosperms, Gymnosperms, Economically Important Plants and Xerophytes for their Project. The trip successfully inculcated in students the practicality of different theoretical concepts of Botany. Students found this place very fruitful in order to study the plant diversity.

Report on Poster making Competition on “Save Nature and Biodiversity”
Over the last few decades, the degradation of our environment has gone up at an alarming rate. Our Mother Earth is currently facing a lot of environmental concerns like Global warming, Acid rain, Air pollution, Ozone hole and water pollution which affect our climate and Biodiversity. In this respect, a poster making competition was organized on the theme “Save Nature and Biodiversity” by Botany Department on 6th June, 2022 to trigger the thought process of students and sensitize them towards this serious issue. 30 students of B.Sc. Medical participated in the competition. The students expressed their artistic skills and creativity through variety of posters. The posters were assessed by the judges on the basis of relevance to theme, design and creativity. The artistic endeavor of the students was highly praised and encouraged by the judges.
