Extension Lecture on POSH by Legal Literacy Cell

On August 5, 2024, Government PG College For Women, Sector-14, Panchkula, hosted the Extension Lectures on POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) and Legal Rights, addressed by Advocate Pooja Nayar of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This event was organized Legal Literacy Cell and the Internal Complaint Committee. The program commenced with a diya lighting ceremony. The ceremony was led by Principal Dr Richa Setia and Convener Dr Alka Sharma and members of Legal Literacy Cell and Internal Complaint Committee: Dr Harvinder, Mr Sandeep, Dr Dimple, Ms Latika, Dr Naveen, Dr Indu, Dr Neelima, Jasvir. Total 226 students attended the lecture. Advocate Pooja Nayar provided an insightful overview of POSH, explaining its inception, objectives, and its critical role in higher educational institutions. She emphasized that respect and safety are not merely rights but are fundamental to a flourishing society. The lecture covered when and why POSH was initiated, highlighting its importance in creating a safe and respectful environment and rights of women. The application and significance of POSH policies in educational settings were discussed and various forms of sexual harassment and provided examples to illustrate these concepts.The structure and roles of the ICC were explained, emphasizing its role in addressing and resolving complaints and punishment for Misconduct like Withholding privileges such as access to the library, auditoria etc, Suspension or restriction of campus entry, expulsion,Reformative measures including mandatory counseling. The lecture was a valuable initiative aimed at enhancing awareness and understanding of POSH regulations and their application within the institution.
