State -Level Legal Literacy Program held on 30 July 2024

A state-level legal literacy program was organized today at Sector-14 College, under the joint supervision of Shri Mata Mansa Devi Government Sanskrit College, Government Women's College, Sector-14, and Haryana State Legal Services Authority. The event was guided by Dr. Rita Gupta, District Higher Education Officer, Panchkula. She highlighted that the Legal Literacy Cell organizes competitions at various levels annually, allowing students to understand legal principles in a fun way. The formal inauguration was conducted by Dr. Richa Setia, Principal of the college. Students from government colleges across almost all districts of the state participated in ten competitions held during the event. Dr. Setia encouraged participants to enhance their knowledge of general legal awareness through the various competitions. The inauguration session also featured a special guest appearance by Vishal Sharma, Deputy Director, Higher Education Department, Haryana. At the closing session, Dr. Archana Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar National Law University, Sonipat, graced the event as the chief guest. She distributed awards to the winning students and emphasized the importance of legal knowledge in daily life. Dr. Mishra advocated for the inclusion of a compulsory legal education subject in schools and colleges. She stressed that every citizen of India should be aware of their rights, duties, and laws. Dr. Kuldeep Agnihotri, Chairperson of Haryana Culture and Sanskrit Academy, also attended as a distinguished guest. Renuka Dhyani, the program's coordinator, informed that students who won division-level competitions in six regions of Haryana—Rohtak, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Faridabad, and Gurgaon—participated in contests such as speech, debate, essay writing, poetry recitation, PowerPoint presentation, slogan writing, quiz, and on-the-spot painting. In the speech competition, Aditya from Sector-1 College secured first place, while Kiran from Karnal Government College and Nikita from Jhajjar won second and third places respectively. In poetry recitation, Anjali Tanwar, Tania, and Divyanshi achieved the top three positions. Annu, Shweta, and Soumya won first, second, and third places in essay writing. Himanshu and Surbhi's team won the debate competition, with Khushi and Arun in second place. In PowerPoint presentation, Yash Kalra, Sonali, and Kashish were first, second, and third. Ravina, Olivia, and Deepanshi secured the top three spots in on-the-spot painting. The event was also attended by Dr. Promila Malik, Principal of Government College Kalka; Dr. Shailja, Principal of Government College Raipur Rani and Morni; Dr. Yashpal Singh, Principal of Government Postgraduate College Sector-1; and District Attorney Amitpal Singh. Yamini coordinated the program, while Dr. Rajveer managed the proceedings.
